Amplified Graphic Design was established in 2008 by Benny Benson. It is the result of his 15 years design experience across the print media, music, advertising and streetwear clothing industries in Australia and the United Kingdom.
My love of design stemmed from looking at my fashion-designer mum's illustrations from the age of ten. It grew into a passion that has, and continues to encompass, a wide variety of mediums, from photography to screenprinting.
After graduating from high school in 1989 and receiving honours from KVB College of Visual Communication two years later, I started my career as a junior graphic artist at a quaint entertainment design studio in Surry Hills, NSW. During my progression from a junior graphic artist to studio manager, my rockstar dreams beckoned. Merging my two loves – design and music – lead to me working as the promotions designer for the Guns N' Roses 1993 tour of Australia.
During my stay at this small rock'n'roll company, they understood my vision, which opened up plenty of freelance opportunities. Creatively, it was free reign. My designs made their way onto local bands' CD covers and posters, as well as the clothes of the now well-known Wheels & Dollbaby label. From here I headed to Queensland, continuing my work in the music industry for national bands like Baby Animals and Something for Kate, and international bands such as Blink 182, Skunk Anansie and Pantera
Entering the magazine industry two years later provided the opportunity to expand my knowledge by designing for a range of titles, from men's lifestyle, to bridal and children's to action sports. Even a stint on a caravan magazine taught me a few things. I think...
A move into the advertising industry in the late 90s helped develop my client management skills. Mock-ups, meetings, brain-storming and company branding became my life until the magazine world lured me back. Fast-forward through another four years of honing my skills, then it was London calling.
Freelancing for several publishing companies in a city where the magazine industry exisits on a much larger scale reignitied my passions for design. Taking on work across corporate, custom and consumer domains afforded me experience much greater than I thought possible.
On returning to Australia in 2007, it was time to take everything I knew and find an environment that would allow me produce my best work. That place is here. Amplified Graphic Design is where I can use my passion and creativity and develop a direct relationship with my client. It's what I've been working towards, and what I'm dedicated to.
